So one of my hobbies since I was a little girl has been baking....my parents used to have date night every Saturday and every week I would rummage through the cupboards to find the makings for some baked good. Most weeks I just ended up with sugar cookies (we didn't keep a ton of supplies on hand), but it could also be soft pretzels or oatmeal raisin or chocolate chip cookies.
It became a weekly gathering of the neighborhood kids to see what I had. And now all these years later, I'm rediscovering my love of baking. I took several cake decorating classes a few years ago and now I'm experimenting with baking recipes.
This coming weekend's project will be a Victoria Sponge Cake. I'm doing the cake for a childhood friend's wedding in September. She's been living in England for quite some time and this is a favorite of hers so I'm going to try out the recipe (courtesy of Nigella Lawson) that I found online on my parents and husband this weekend. I'll take pictures along the way to show how I did.
